I've found that if I suspend and resume laptop immediately, fans are remained off until next system load. You can easily get the ThinkPad X1 Carbon for a price comparable to the Air. BIOS v2.1(enabling Win8 support) causes the battery to not be found by Linux, still works but gives you no management over it. When I got home and started it up today it started up fine and the light is on but my bt mouse is back to not working again. I'm pretty sure the drivers installed OK, since the other USB 3.0 devices still appeared, but I wonder if these drivers have some sort of incompatibility with this Seagate drive. This is an option in the BIOS. However, due to the insane screen resolution, things tend to be very small and hard to see. Screen turns of, but system stays running and only a hard reboot is possible. I used an askubuntu link, (don't have it now) to install the drivers via LXTerminal and rebooted.
